Ireland: fulfilment at half price, until it is not

Amazon.ie opened on 18 March 2025 and its fulfilment rates are promotional: a 50% discount on the standard domestic and Pan-European rates. The figures in this calculator are the promotional ones a seller is billed today, because that is what shows up on the invoice, but they are not the underlying card.

The gap is large. A 400 g standard parcel is billed at €2.08 where the standard European column for Ireland is €4.17. The same parcel is €3.42 in Germany, €3.77 in Spain and €5.22 in France, and the Irish small tier opens under a euro where Germany's opens at €2.33. Nowhere else in Europe is fulfilment that cheap.

That makes Ireland the one store where a margin can be an artefact of timing. It undercuts every other European store only because its rates are promotional and will rise when that promotion ends. Before committing stock, run the same product with the fulfilment fee doubled and check the margin still works.

The referral side is ordinary, the tax is not

Referral rates follow the standard euro schedule: 15% on most categories, 7% on computers and consumer electronics, the €0.30 per-item minimum, clothing stepping at €15 and €20, and jewellery and watches switching to 5% above €250. Books, music, video and DVD are exempt from the minimum.

What is not ordinary is the tax. Irish prices include 23% VAT, the highest rate of any euro store in this calculator and second only to Sweden's 25%. A registered seller's referral fee is charged on the price divided by 1.23, so a €123 listing is billed on €100. The same €123 in Germany leaves €103.36 behind it, and the referral fee differs accordingly. The VAT itself is never yours, so it leaves the profit line either way.

Fulfilment figures come from page 15 of Amazon's European rate card effective 1 July 2026, where the Irish promotional column is half the standard one; referral rates from Amazon's published Irish fee schedule.

    Effective 2026-07-01 onward · retrieved 2026-08-30

Amazon.ie opened on 18 March 2025 and its fulfilment rates are promotional: a 50% discount on the standard domestic and Pan-European rates, valid from 2025. These are the promotional rates a seller is billed today, so they will rise when the promotion ends. Storage, inbound placement, low-inventory and returns fees vary by seller and are excluded, as is the fuel and logistics surcharge Amazon applies on top of fulfilment fees in several stores.

    How we checked these figures

Rate card page 15: the Irish promotional column is half the standard one, so 400 g standard parcel is 2.08 against a standard 4.17.
