Canada: prices before tax, and a surcharge that is not in this figure

Canada is the only store outside the United States in this calculator where prices are quoted before sales tax, so the referral fee is charged on the price as shown. There is no VAT to strip and no registration toggle, and a listing at C$40 is billed on C$40. GST, HST and PST still apply at checkout, but they sit outside the fee base rather than inside the displayed price as they do across Europe.

The second thing to know is not in the number above it. A 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies on top of fulfilment fees from 17 April 2026 and is not included here. On a C$7.23 standard parcel that is another 25 cents, and it compounds with every other exclusion. Put it in the other-costs field.

A minimum that bites, and a card that punishes weight

Canada charges a per-item referral minimum of C$0.40, the largest nominal figure of any store here, though converted it is not the dearest: £0.25 in Britain and €0.30 across the euro stores are both worth more. Books, music, video and DVD are exempt, as are grocery and gourmet, but everything else pays it, and at 15% the floor overtakes the percentage on anything priced below about C$2.70.

The small size tier stops at 500 g, so anything above a light parcel is billed from the standard card, and that card climbs steeply: C$5.92 up to 100 g, C$7.23 at 500 g, C$8.49 at 1 kg and C$9.60 at 1.5 kg. Where Britain's card rises 64 pence across its whole standard range, from £2.94 to £3.58 at 11.9 kg, Canada's rises C$2.57 inside the first kilogram alone. Weight discipline matters here in a way it does not in Britain.

Two category rates are worth checking before pricing. Clothing is 10% below C$20 and 17% above it, matching the American rate and beaten only by India's 23%. Watches run at 16% up to C$1,500 and 3% beyond, and jewellery switches from 20% to 5% at C$325.

Figures come from Amazon Canada's published selling fee schedule and FBA rate card, effective 17 April 2026.
