How this is calculated

eBay takes a percentage of the whole sale, the item price, the postage you charge and any tax added at checkout, at the rate for the item's category, often with a lower rate above a threshold, and adds a fixed fee per order. A buyer abroad, a promoted listing or a regulatory fee each add a further percentage of the same total, and every line is shown with its working from the site's own fee page. The profit is what is left of the price and postage after those fees and your costs.

FeesT × r + f + T × i + T × a

Profitprice + postage − fees − costs

T
the total sale: price, postage and tax
r
the category rate, in tiers above a threshold
f
the per-order fee for the order's size
i, a
the international fee and the ad rate, when they apply
The breakdown beside the result shows each line with your own figures.

What this does not include

  • eBay Store subscriptions and their lower final value fees, and Australia's paid Pro plans.
  • Insertion fees beyond the free allowance, listing upgrades and vehicle categories.
  • Below Standard surcharges, and the buyer protection fee charged to buyers.
  • VAT or GST eBay adds to its fees for business sellers, and income tax on the profit.
  • Categories whose rate changes for the whole sale above a price, such as US sneakers.
