Every Canadian pays income tax twice on the same return: federal tax, whose lowest rate is 14% in 2026, and provincial or territorial tax on brackets the province sets. Quebec runs its own return, its own pension plan in place of the CPP and its own parental insurance, and federal tax there is cut by a 16.5% abatement. The take-home pay calculator applies all of it for the province you choose. Buying a home is taxed provincially too, and unevenly: Ontario charges land transfer tax on a sliding scale, and Toronto adds a municipal one on top, while Alberta has no land transfer tax at all, only a registration fee, as the land transfer tax calculator shows.

Retirement turns on two public pensions with different rules. The CPP is earned by contributions and the OAS by years of residence, both from 65, and both reward waiting: the CPP rises by 0.7% for each month you defer, to 42% more at 70, and is cut by 0.6% a month if taken early, to 36% less at 60, while the OAS rises by 0.6% a month to 70 and cannot be taken early. The retirement calculator projects your own savings on top. On credit cards, Quebec law has required a minimum payment of 5% of the balance since 1 August 2025, and since 1 January 2025 the Criminal Code has capped most consumer credit at 35% a year, the background to the credit card payoff calculator. And sales tax on a car, at combined rates from 5% in Alberta to 15% in most of Atlantic Canada, is added on top of the price and in most provinces charged after the trade-in is deducted, as the car loan calculator models.

The calculators below are set up for Canada, and each one says which of these rules it models. Every dataset behind them is listed at the foot of this page with the date it applies from.
