Spain: the 0.88% regulatory operating fee

Spanish sellers pay a regulatory operating fee of 0.88% of the item price plus the shipping they charge, raised from 0.72% on 22 June 2026. It sits between Britain's 0.48% and France's 1.14%, and it is the reason a Spanish shop and a Dutch shop with identical listings, identical prices and identical postage do not take home the same amount.

Everything else follows the euro-zone schedule: a €0.18 listing fee, the standard 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing at 4% plus €0.30, and Offsite Ads at 15%. The regulatory fee shares the transaction fee's base, so it is charged on price and shipping but not on VAT, and it applies to every order rather than only to advertised ones.

The practical effect is easiest to see as a rate on turnover: 0.88% of everything the shop sells, before any other fee, deducted whether the order was profitable or not.

Worked example: a €40 item with €5 shipping

Listing €0.18. Transaction 6.5% of €45.00 = €2.93. Processing 4% of €45.00 plus €0.30 = €2.10. Regulatory 0.88% of €45.00 = €0.40.

Total €5.61, 12.5% of the €45 the buyer pays you.

Before 22 June 2026 the regulatory line was €0.32. The increase costs a shop about €80 a year on €50,000 of sales.
