Above the median. Your household's income is 1.1 times the median of 326 671 kr. Another 294 256 kr would reach the high-income line. That is more than about 58% of people in private households have.

Where these figures come from

Pay among employees: Medlingsinstitutet and SCB, Wage structure statistics, whole economy, 2025 (table LoneSpridSektYrk4AN), 2025. Monthly pay with variable supplements and benefits, restated to full time; overtime pay, 13th-month payments and profit shares are not counted.

Household income: Eurostat, EU-SILC 2025, Sweden: distribution of income by quantiles (ilc_di01) and median equivalised income (ilc_di03), 2025 survey, 2024 income. Net household income after tax and with benefits, divided by household size on the modified OECD scale that Eurostat uses.

Some figures are published per month and are shown here per year: each amount is multiplied by the number of its periods in a year and divided by the number in yours, so every share and every rank is unchanged.

Between two published points, a rank is read along the curve that joins them, so it is given as “about”. Beyond the last published point only the published share is stated. Figures are shown for the year they describe and are not aged forward.

How the household's take-home was worked out

450 000 kr less tax and contributions is 359 086 kr a year, for one adult and 0 children.

Each earner’s take-home comes from the Sweden take-home engine on its 2026 rules, as a single employee with no pension contribution or allowance beyond what the law gives everyone. Where income tax differs by county, the one chosen above is used. Joint assessment of couples is not applied.

The household lens compares income after tax, per year, so the take-home figure above is the one placed against its lines.

Monthly pay restated to full time, and SCB's high economic standard

Swedish pay is quoted by the month, and the official earnings distribution follows suit. Medlingsinstitutet's wage structure statistics, which SCB publishes, take each job's basic pay plus variable supplements and benefits and restate it to full time, so a 75% post counts at what it would pay for a full week. Overtime pay, a 13th or 14th month's salary and profit shares are left out. In 2025 the median was 38 300 kr a month, one job in ten paid under 28 000 kr and the top 10% started at 61 700 kr. The calculator divides your annual salary by 12 before ranking it, which matches a contract quoted as a monthly wage.

The spread differs by sector. The top 10% of private-sector jobs began at 64 600 kr, against 55 700 kr in the public sector.

The wage statistics are published for eight large NUTS 2 regions only, so the calculator ranks pay against the whole country. SCB's county income statistics measure something wider: total earned income of everyone aged 20 to 64 who lived in Sweden all year, which adds pensions and benefits such as sickness and parental benefit to pay and counts people with part-time or little work. A full-time salary would rank higher on that table than it deserves, so it is shown here for context only. The median in Stockholm county was 435 800 kr a year in 2024, against 373 600 kr on Gotland.

SCB publishes an official high-income measure, which it calls high economic standard: household disposable income per consumption unit of at least twice the national median. In 2024, 7.2% of people lived above it, and 12.7% in Stockholm county. Below 60% of the median SCB counts a low economic standard, which covered 13.1%.

SCB divides by its own consumption units, worked out from household budgets: 1.51 for a couple, 0.52 for the first child and 0.42 for each further child up to 19. Children weigh far more there than on the EU's modified OECD scale (0.3 each, under 14). The household lens here uses Eurostat's EU-SILC figures for Sweden on the EU scale, so that the poverty line, the median and the distribution share one basis, and draws the high line at twice that median, the rule SCB applies. The EU at-risk-of-poverty line for a single adult was 196 001 kr a year, with 15.6% of people below it.

Worked example45,000 kronor a month, living alone

A salary of 45,000 kronor a month, 540,000 a year, sits above the national median of 38 300 kr and below the 61 700 kr at which the top 10% of jobs start. In Stockholm county, the wider earned-income measure had a median of 435 800 kr, which is why county figures are not used to rank a salary.

Questions and answers

Because Swedish salaries are agreed and published as monthly pay. The wage structure statistics convert every employee's pay to a full-time monthly equivalent, so a part-time job is ranked on what it would pay at full time. The calculator divides your annual salary by twelve before placing it.
