French income tax is assessed on the household, not the person. Taxable income is divided by the household's parts, two for a couple and a half or more for each child, the scale of 0%, 11%, 30%, 41% and 45% is applied to each part, and the result is multiplied back, within a cap on what children can save. Since 2019 the tax is withheld at source at a rate the tax office sends your employer, but the larger deduction on most payslips is social: CSG and CRDS are charged on 98.25% of gross salary, alongside pension and other contributions. The take-home pay calculator models both. On a home, transfer duties make up most of what are loosely called frais de notaire, and since the 2025 increase most départements charge 5% for their share, about 6.32% in all; first-time buyers of a main home are spared the increase, as the stamp duty calculator shows.

The pension age has become a moving target. The 2023 reform is raising the legal age to 64, but the 2026 social security financing law suspended the climb from 1 September 2026 until 2028, leaving anyone born between January 1963 and March 1965 at 62 and 9 months, and the legal age is the earliest you may draw a pension, not a full one; the retirement calculator projects what the régime général and AGIRC-ARRCO leave uncovered.
