Income in the US is taxed twice over, and the second layer is the one that varies. The federal return follows the calendar year, with a standard deduction of 16,100 dollars for a single filer in 2026 and brackets from 10% to 37%. On top of it each state, and Washington DC, sets its own income tax: thirty use graduated brackets, twelve a flat rate and nine, Texas and Florida among them, tax no wages at all. The take-home pay calculator applies both layers for the state you choose. Buying a home works the same way: there is no federal transfer tax, the stamp duty calculator charges the state's own, and who pays it, buyer or seller, is set by law in some states and by custom in others.

Three rules shape the longer-term numbers. Social Security's full retirement age is 67 for anyone born in 1960 or later, which is where the retirement calculator opens. A car is priced before sales tax, which is added at the dealer and in most states charged only on the price left after a trade-in, so a part-exchange lowers the tax as well as the loan; the car loan calculator keeps a tax field for that reason. And no federal law caps what a credit card may charge: the rate and the minimum payment come from the card agreement, though since the CARD Act of 2009 every statement must say how long paying only the minimum would take, the sum the credit card payoff calculator works out for your own figures.

The calculators below are set up for the US, and each one says which of these rules it models. Every dataset behind them is listed at the foot of this page with the date it applies from.
