Sri Lanka
Calculators set up for Sri Lankan rules, from APIT to EPF and ETF, the Central Bank rates behind local loans, and what changed this year of assessment.
Sri Lanka's year of assessment runs from 1 April to 31 March. Employment income is taxed through APIT, deducted by the employer each month, after a personal relief of 1.8 million rupees a year, and then at 6% on the next million rising to 36% at the top. Contributions come out of the same pay: 8% to the Employees' Provident Fund from the employee, with 12% to the EPF and 3% to the Employees' Trust Fund from the employer. The take-home pay calculator applies them all. A property purchase pays stamp duty of 3% on the first 100,000 rupees of the price and 4% on the rest, collected by the Provincial Council where the land is, which the stamp duty calculator adds to the cost of buying.
The longer-term numbers are shaped by high rates and high nominal returns. The minimum retirement age for private-sector employees was raised to 60 in 2021, and the EPF and ETF are compulsory, so the retirement calculator should count them once, as a contribution or as a lower target. Its opening assumptions are an 11% return against 6% inflation, so the today's-money line, not the headline balance, is the one to read. Card interest is capped by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, which reviews the ceiling as policy rates move, and issuers usually ask for 5% of the balance each month, as the credit card payoff calculator assumes. A car's import duty is already inside its price, but vehicle loan rates sit well into the teens, so the total interest line in the car loan calculator matters more than the monthly payment.
The calculators below are set up for Sri Lanka, and each one says which of these rules it models. Every dataset behind them is listed at the foot of this page with the date it applies from.
