Finnish earned income is taxed by three bodies at once: the state on a progressive scale, your municipality at its own flat rate, and, for members, the parish. Employers do not work this out themselves; they withhold the percentage on the tax card the Tax Administration issues to you each year. Social contributions come out of the same pay, of which the largest is the employee's earnings-related pension contribution of 7.3% in 2026. On a home, transfer tax is 3% of the price for a house and its plot and 1.5% of the debt-free price for shares in a housing company, which is how most flats are owned, and since 2024 there has been no exemption for first-time buyers, as the transfer tax calculator shows.

Finland trims pensions as life expectancy rises. Before an earnings-related pension is paid it is multiplied by a life expectancy coefficient, fixed for your cohort at 62 and permanent, which for those born in the early 1960s cuts it by a little over 5%, and waiting past your lowest pension age, 65 for those born from 1962 to 1964, raises it by 0.4% a month; the retirement calculator projects your own savings on top. Consumer credit interest may not exceed 20% in any case, or the reference rate plus 15 points if that is lower, so the credit card payoff calculator flags anything above it.
