How this was calculated

Every rate and threshold comes from the datasets listed under Data sources on this page, with the official publication each was taken from.

Income tax uses the same brackets, allowances and credits as the take-home pay calculator for United States, applied to your profit after the deductions the law gives a business. The contributions are the ones a self-employed person pays in place of an employee’s, at the rates set for the year. The figures assume the business is your only income.

A result link includes the numbers you entered. Share it only with people you want to see them.

How this is calculated

Enter the year's profit, or turnover where your country's flat regime deems the profit from it, and the calculator runs your country's self-employed engine on it. Each engine first takes off what the law lets a business deduct before tax, such as half of American self-employment tax, Dutch entrepreneur's deductions or Finland's 5% entrepreneur's deduction, then charges income tax with the same brackets and credits the take-home pay calculator uses. Beside it come the contributions a self-employed person pays instead of an employee's, at the year's rates, and what is left is what you keep.

What this does not include

  • Business expenses: enter profit after them, except in France and India, where the regime deems it.
  • VAT, GST and sales tax, which a registered business collects and passes on.
  • Pension contributions you choose to make, and the relief they would earn.
  • Other income in the same year, a partner's income and joint assessment.
  • Local business taxes such as Gewerbesteuer, the CFE and state income tax.
