How the price was worked out
Starting from $80.00: 25% off takes $20.00, leaving $60.00. Each step is rounded to the smallest coin, as a till does.
Shops round and apply offers in their own order. An estimate, not financial advice, providers may calculate differently.

How this is calculated
The calculator takes your full price through each offer in the order a till applies it: the percentage off first, then any extra percentage off the already reduced price, then a voucher, rounding to the smallest coin at every step. It reports the sale price, what you save and the single discount that all the offers add up to, and turned round it finds the discount between two prices or the full price a sale price came from. Enter a sales tax or VAT rate and say whether your prices already include it, and the result shows the tax separately and what you hand over at the till.
Sale priceP × (1 − d₁) × (1 − d₂) − v
- P
- Full price
- d₁
- Discount, as a decimal
- d₂
- Extra discount on the reduced price, as a decimal
- v
- Voucher or amount off
What this does not include
- Whether the full price was a genuine one: a discount is only as real as the price it is taken from.
- Manufacturer coupons that some US states tax at the full pre-coupon price.
- Delivery charges, card fees and anything else added at checkout.
- Loyalty points, cashback and buy-one-get-one offers.
How this calculator works
How discounts stack, and where the tax comes in. Why 20% off plus an extra 10% is 28%, how a till rounds each step, working back to the full price, and how sales tax and VAT treat a discounted price.
